Building the Kokkos Community Playbook: Our Journey with CSCCE Birdaro
Date:
Luc and I recently wrapped up our time in the inaugural Birdaro training program hosted by the CSCCE, and for our graduation, we got to share what we’ve been cooking up for the Kokkos Project.
As Kokkos continues to grow, we’ve realized that our “human infrastructure” needs just as much attention as our performance kernels. We co-presented our plan for the Kokkos Community Playbook—a new effort to centralize how we work, lead, and welcome others into the fold.
This isn’t a finished, static manual just yet; it’s a work-in-progress that we’re building directly into the Developer Corner of our documentation at kokkos.org. Our talk covered:
- The Vision: Creating a comprehensive handbook that makes it way easier for new contributors to get their bearings and start shipping code.
- Structure & Format: Why we chose to keep our community guidelines right alongside our technical docs so they actually stay relevant.
- What’s Next: Our roadmap for building out the content, maintaining it long-term, and socializing these new “rules of the road” with the rest of the Kokkos community.
It was a refreshing experience to step back from the technical side for a bit and focus on how we make the ecosystem more sustainable and inclusive for everyone.
